Stop the EV Tax Hike
Texas legislators have proposed a punitive tax on electric vehicles of $200 per year! Every driver should pay their fair share for maintaining our roads and bridges but no driver should be punished for driving a highly efficient car.
Senate Bill 1728 and House Bill 3531 would impose a punitive fee of $200 to $250 per year. That is more than three times what a Texas driver pays in gas taxes every year for a comparable vehicle. Making it worse, there is no relief for a driver who buys a lower cost electric vehicle or a used model.
Legislators are voting on this bill this week! Take action now and tell them to stop the EV tax hike!
Electric Vehicles in Texas
- Electric vehicle owners planned ahead of Winter Storm Uri to ensure their vehicles were nearly fully charged and were able to utilize their cars intermittently for heat and power. In San Antonio, one family was able to run their EV's heater to stay warm for three nights on a single charge. Some EV owners were also able to utilize their vehicle in combination with a power inverter to charge phones and battery packs.
